  • Vivek

You forget to mention india’s rank in human rights index. India’s rank in corrupt contries’ list and that even after having third largest army , we live in fear; being heavily populated we curse and fight with each other and so on ….

these are areas of improvement not things to be proud about …

    Vivek

  • Samit

Inspite of doing something to improve the mentioned areas you are discouraging a true Country man & thats absolutely ridiculous

    Samit

  • Vivek

ridiculous is to fake the greatness and do nothing .. I clearly mentioned these rae areas of improvement read my comment carefully and in its entirety rahter than being emotional

  • Neeraj

I totally agree with Vivek. My frds sometime truth is really painfull so you accept or not but thats the painfull truth.

    Neeraj

  • Baivab

still I am proud to be an Indian :)

  • Prakash

I never live in fear, One day when one pick my pocket I cought him, he attacked me with a knife, i got hurt in my left hand. Still I caught him and handed to police. I did my duty. India is progressing still after so many of scams. People are not bad, Leaders are bad.

    Be leader save country.

    Prakash

  • Vivek

You know the worst part is when we say india is progressing even after so many scams .. do we as a society have accepted scams and believe let them there and that we can still remain progressinve.
I too think that india should progress and willing to do whatever I can also have done a few things like your brave story.
But I do not find any vision leading this country, power cut is omnipresent, basic infastrusture is absent education is senseless and I do not think just growth of share market is any kind of growth.
And as far as fear is concerned – if innocent people die, I believe same can happen to me and we are not secure none of my kith and kin need to die for me to realize that the country is not safe.

This is what called blind patriotism. Living in daydreams and far away from reality.
Population: Second Largest in world——I am hardly proud of this fact.

Economy fact: Fastest growing economy in the world——–Check the percentage of population still living below poverty rate, without most basic health care, lack of primary education, lack of clean drinking water. Statistics can be most misleading sometimes.

Army: Third Largest standing Army in the world——–and yet Bangladeshi terrorists threaten to invade India.

Postal network: India has total of 1,54,551 Post Offices which is World’slargest———-what was the last time you used Indian postal service? I know, even I can’t remember.

Railway System: India has world’s second largest railways system and number 1 in Asia———I rather like Indian rail, but it isn’t all that rosy. Technically the railways are developing and the speed of snail, while other developing countries are miles ahead of us.

Oil Consumption: India is world’s sixth consumer of oil———not exactly a good news, considering the global warming.

I countered some of the facts as you pinted out here, but that doesn’t mean I am not proud to be an Indian. I like that we have so much to offer, that we hardly notice we all are so different than the next person but yet quite similar. Its quite a paradox. I like India for its humbleness. But we do have a lot of work to do to make things much better. I think thats what i am trying to say here.

Instead of criticising Prakash’s comments, we should appreciate him.Offcourse there are many fields in which India to to focus on but it does not mean that we wont appreciate the things which are noteworthy.

I agree with Vivek in many aspects. Many points in the original post says largest but largest doesn’t mean good or best. Quality is better than quantity. When I was a kid I proud my country blindly but now after knowing the truth of real life I am sad to say that although I love my country but finding it hard to feel proud of it.

  • Prakash

Do you think patriotism is a statement of Profit and Loss???
    Prakash

  • Neeraj

See Prakash if its about patriotism Then I would always say “Yes I am proud to be an India”. However When I ask question to myself that do I have proud on my country India then answer is “NO”. See where our country stands today. Our own government(politicians: after all they only running the government) people plays with their own peoples life. What about price hikes of petrol, eatables. Do you think they are listening us? Answer is big “NO”. Look at our education system, if you want to get an school admission for your child then you need to give some Donation in schools account. Friend there are lot such issues. Go to any government office for your work and you feel of killing them because they do not work without money.
    Neeraj

  • Prakash

Again saying, problem is not people, problem is leader. Be Leader and make changes, save country.
    Prakash

  • Aditya

That’s the most common and rather unfair response everyone gives when someone complains about the leadership,’Why don’t you become a politician’. Its not that easy. Not everyone is cut out for it. Just because a person isn’t happy with the leader of the society doesn’t mean he or she should become the leader. What if they don’t want to be a leader.
Still as a concerned citizen everyone has the right to critisize its government, to question them. There is nothing wrong with it. They chose to lead our society, now they also must perform. If not then questions will be raised.

    India is great
It is well established fact that there are serious problems faced by us. But remember that no developed nation in today’s world became a developed nation overnight. They have all been through what we are going through now – poverty, corruption, crime, scams etc. Let us look at some positive things. We are better off than most developing nations. If you aask your parents and grandparents, they will tell you about the struggle that they have been through even to get basic items like rice – India had a shortage of food supplies in the past. It has been overcome. We enjoy a better standard of living than our parents did at our age.
I do accept that we are afflicted by problems of corruption and dishonesty. We have to work as a nation to solve it.
There is no point in blaming anyone. The change starts from us. The least we can do is to obey traffic rules, stand in a line at a ticket counter etc. Let’s hope for a better nation.
Despite all its problems our nation has come this far. India is a great nation and I am proud to be an Indian.
