The age old route from delhi to Manali is thru C’garh – Ropar – Roopnagar and so on. Last year , I took another route back that cut off C’garh – I do not recall the route . Does anybody have any idea and how good is the road and does it shorten ditance and travelling time. Wd be grateful to receive a response. Thanks

Yes you are absolutely right, there is a bit shorter route. U can skip Chandigarh and directly go to Ropar (aka Roopnagar) from Ambala
i.e. Ambala -> Rajpura -> Sirhind -> Fatehgarh Sahib-> Morinda -> Rupnagar (Ropar) (Total dist from Ambala 99Km, via chandigarh it is 150 Km approx,so a saving of 50 Kms).
From Ropar you can proceed to Mandi via Anandpur Sahib.
I think it is possble to reach Manali by 7 if you start at 9AM. from Ambala
