What you people are doing?

During my recent visit to northern India ( New Delhi, Jaipur, Agra, Himachal and Leh ) I saw something which I could not believe.. In the name of development thousands of trees are being cut at almost every city where I visited.

When I asked about it people replied that in most of the places Indian authorities ( Govt ) itself authorize this to make room for buildings, flyovers etc..

My question is .. Are you people blind or stupid or what… Is this a kind of national stupidity? Does anyone ever oppose this in your country.. any groups or someone there who can see that this is not development but a kind of mass suicide being manufactured slowly for your nation?

Its is indeed a national stupidity… There are some environment groups but no one listens to them. You are correct that its a kind of blindness which cannot see what is the real progress and development

  • Suresh

Your observation is not entirely correct. Whenever Govt authorize cutting of trees there is always a plan to plant more trees somewhere else. And also its not correct to say stupidity or blindness… The correct word may be being unaware..

  • Komal

Hey.. It happens in all countries… what about USA.. they also don’t care about environment.. I have read that all the damage to the ozone layer is due to the bad lifestyle of USA people .. ..

I agree with Fabian totally … its like digging your own grave… but since the effect is not immediate no one cares about it.

Unfortunately widening of a road or building a flyover / mall is more important than protecting a preserving the environment in our country

[ Whenever Govt authorize cutting of trees there is always a plan to plant more trees somewhere else ]

If this is true then the overall greenery in our country should be increasing… isn’t it?

Almost every country have these kind of problems. But this does not mean that there is no effort to get the things improved. India is a big country with very high population and overall bigger cities have more population density. Its not always easy to manage these issues… India is still developing ..

    Hi all

I dont think there is any point in discussing about all these problems here as people who are responsible for all this never come to these kind of websites ( And even if someone gets here by mistake he is most certainly will not change after reading all this ).

So its a kind of a futile discussion to have on websites like this which are essentially for information sharing. I also request moderators of this website to stop approving such general comments kind of things which leads to unnecessary blame game and does not provide any useful information about tourism in India

All kind of good as well as bad things are happening all over the world in terms of environment degradation. The highest truth is that humans think that they own the world and can use all resources as they want and destroy at will. Only a few stops and think that world is a beautiful place and we can live in harmony with nature also..

What you are referring to is just one example and I can say a very mild one. What about killing of whales by Japan, overall unlimited destructive activities by Afghanistan and Pakistan, bad effects inflicted on ozone layer by USA, constant war like conditions in many countries…

Firstly i would like to thank Fabian.
thank you , for opening our eyes !
you really are a real good observer !
Ofcourse this is national stupidity ! i mean what else do you expect ?
do you think that every time we see any such thing happening we just ignore it ?
the truth is we ourselves dont know what to do… i mean what can u do if there are trees being cut in your country or tULIPS or whatever in the name of development ?

(I have heard that the last natural forest of netherland was cut down in late 1800s , now all the tress over there are manually planted.i wonder if that was a national stupidity ? )

Ofcourse there are many groups , environmentalists and other people fighting against such acivities .
I mean ask any indian about the very famous CHIPKOO movement … (a peaceful way to protect the trees , where people go and hug the trees being cut)
there have been thousands of such cases ..

The problem is , i suppose the high population. we need more space ! But i agree that cutting of trees should be stopped .
but may i ask where did you see people cutting trees ? frankly speaking if anywhere in the city trees are cut then next day this news will be on the first page of every newspaper !

So , Yes trees are being cut , Yes it is a mass suicide and YES we must fight against it , but lets just say that our eyes are open and we are very much aware of this dangerous issue. But still thanks for your concern.

    Cheers !

    Hi Mike,..

Its not about India or Netherlands or any blame game.. its about saving the earth.. I just saw something in India and thought it is wrong… If this was in Netherlands I would have pointed out the same..

[ (I have heard that the last natural forest of Netherlands was cut down in late 1800s , now all the tress over there are manually planted.i wonder if that was a national stupidity ? ) ]

You are yourself pointing that a bad thing was corrected.. and I assume it can happen in India also… isn’t it?
